SBHOG Ride Memorial Weekend 2010
We left the Summit
Inn at the top of CajonPass on Friday, May 28th
at about 8 a.m.At that time there were
13 bikes and three vehicles. At Pearsonville we picked up 4 more bikes and one
more vehicle. The weather looked kind of ominous and it was chilly but we were
dressed for it. We stopped for lunch at BrownsTown
in Bishop and briefly saw the other SBHOG members. When we got to Bridgeport we put on a few more clothes and made it to Carson City, NV
with minor sprinkles for the last mile or so. In Carson City one more bike joined us for a
total of 18 bikes and 29 people. The motel had a Welcome SBHOG sign on a tub of
towels in the front entrance.
Saturday morning the
weather looked more to our liking and we started out our trek by going to
Fernley at the start of Highway 50 through northern Nevada
called the loneliest road in America.
We had little books the Nevada
Chamber had given us that we had stamped at each town. From Fernley we traveled
east 27 miles to Fallon, and then 112 miles more to Austin. Each town looked like out of the
early 19th century with mines along the highway, and old brick
buildings that dated back years. In Austin we
ate lunch at a building that had been transported from Virginia City, NV.
Half of us got our lunch and the other half had to beg for theirs. There was a
bar in the room next door and some of the group left dollars hanging on the
wall. Our half left the other half (with their permission of course) and headed
out to Eureka
70 miles down the road. From Eureka
it was 78 miles to Ely and getting colder all the time. I have to tell you that
each town and stretch in between was at least 5000 ft and as high as 7500 ft.
in elevation. Ely was 6415 ft elevation.
Two nights in Ely,
where they had a sign saying Welcome San
Bernardino HOGs, at the famous Hotel
Nevada. Sunday some of us rode the train to an old mining camp, where we were
robbed by riders on horseback. Back in town a visit to a brothel, (with our
ladies in tow) to speak to a woman of the night and tour the site. One of our
group challenged the price the lady of the night quoted as her fee, and it
turned out she was right.
Monday morning we
headed to Las Vegas
and stopped at all three towns in between. Pioche, Caliente and Alamo each one looking like something you would see on
Gunsmoke. At that point the group went their separate ways with thanks to the
Gruberts and Sikorski for the great ride.

Just a note about the pictures......I had to put them in three different albums and I expect one more, because my picture editor on the web page wouldn't combine them. They are from three different sources and no the last few were not taken in 2006....someone forgot to reset the calendar in their camera. Pictures thanks to Renee` Murphy, Barry Valdez and Kelley, and John Drake. More coming and I will post them also......enjoy
All meeting's will be held at 25160 Redlands Blvd. in Loma Linda from this time on!
